The History Of The National Home Grown School Feeding Programme In Nigeria.

The National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP) is a Nigerian Government-led, costeffective school feeding programme that uses farm produce locally grown, to feed pupils. The first implementation of NHGSFP was in 2004. If you didn't know that, below are some inside to help you know  the history of the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme in Nigeria. 

NHGSF History

  • In 2004, the Federal Government of Nigeria piloted the implementation of Home Grown School Feeding (HGSF)
  • The Federal Ministry of Education was the designated implementing agency for a phased pilot rollout, beginning with 12 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) selected from the six geopolitical zones.
  • This programme stopped shortly after commencement in 10 States and the FCT.
  • D: Only Osun and Kano States continued with the programme.

  • In 2016. the Federal Government. reaffirmed its commitment to the HGSFP by setting a target of 12.8 million primary school aged children to benefit from the programme by July 2019.
  • As at August 2017, NHGSFP is in about 20.000 schools in 14 states across Nigeria.
