South Africa 2026 SC/NSC Examinations Registration Now Open — How to Apply
The door to your next big opportunity has just opened. The South African Department of Basic Education has officially announced that registration for the 2026 May/June and November Senior Certificate (SC) and National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations is now live.
Whether you are looking to finish your matric, improve your results, or take the next step in your academic journey, now is the time to act.
Understanding Your Category: SC vs. NSC
Before you head out to register, it is important to know which category you fall under, as the rules for each differ slightly:
- National Senior Certificate (NSC): These are typically school-leaving learners.
- Senior Certificate (SC): These are usually adult learners or those completing their matric outside of the full-time school system.
Note: SC candidates are only eligible to write during the May/June examination period and are not eligible for the November examination.
How to Register
The registration process depends on your candidate status. For NSC candidates, registration can only be completed manually. You will need to visit your current school or your nearest district office to submit your application.
For SC candidates, there are two convenient options. You may complete your registration in person at your nearest district office, or you can register online through the e-Services portal at www.eservices.gov.za.
Don’t Miss the Deadlines!
Time is of the essence. To ensure your spot in the exam hall, make sure you submit your application before the following closing dates:
- May/June Examinations: 6 February 2026
- November Examinations: 13 March 2026
Pro Tip: Don't wait until the last minute! System volumes can be high near the deadline, and manual registrations may require specific documentation that takes time to gather.
Final Thoughts: A Reading Nation is a Leading Nation
Education is the most powerful tool you can use to change your world. As part of the "Read to Lead" initiative and the National Development Plan 2030, these examinations are designed to help every South African reach their full potential.
