What Are Your Plans Now That INEC Has Released The Timetable And Schedule Of Activities For The 2019 General Elections

Now that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has released the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2019 general elections. Consisting the Presidential, National and State Assembly, Governorship and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council elections, what are your preparation like? Have you gotten your voters card ready?.

According to the Timetable party primaries tor the Presidential, Governorship, Federal and State Elections would begin on August 18 to end on October 7, 2018, while that of the FCT Area Council Elections will commence on September 4 to end on October 27. 2018.

The timetable was issued at a press briefing by the INEC Chairman, Professor Yakubu Mahmood, which held at the Commission's Headquarters in Abuja.

It would be recalled that the Commission had on March 9, 2017, announced dates for the Presidential and National Assembly Elections indicating that Presidential Election would hold on February 16, 2019, while Governorship and State Assembly Elections would be conducted on March 2. 2019.

The INEC Chairman noted that the decision to be more proactive in announcing dates and schedules of elections well ahead of time was to engender certainty in the Country’s electoral calendar and to enable all stakeholders to prepare adequately for elections.

While calling for the support and cooperation of all stakeholders, Prof. Mahmood used the occasion to remind Political Parties, candidates and other critical stakeholders that election was a process critical stakeholders that election was a process governed by law and that "...the Commission expects full adherence to the provisions of the Constitution and the Electoral Act".

He appealed to all stakeholders in the electoral process to eschew bitterness and conduct their activities with decorum. He said, "the Commission is determined to build on the legacy of the 2015 general elections by ensuring that our elections keep getting better
