Npower News - HM Sadiya Umar Farouq Week In Review

On Friday, July 3rd I held a virtual meeting with some of the outgoing Npower beneficiaries where I thanked them for their service to the nation while explaining the rationale behind the enrolment of Batch C. They thanked the His Excellency President Muhammad Buhari for the opportunity.

It has been a week since the @Npower registration portal opened to facilitate Batch C enrolment, over 3m young and eligible Nigerians have applied to underline the imperative of the programme.

Meanwhile, I was pleased to inform the participants during our virtual meeting that over 109,000 N-Power beneficiaries have become business owners and employers of labor since the programme was established in 2016 thereby boosting the economy and GDP.

On Friday, July 3rd, Perm Sec Jalal Arabi joined me in welcoming the #naptipnigeria board. They paid a courtesy visit to the ministry I thanked the Director-General for her untiring effort to help the vulnerable.

I also expressed my concern in the face of the rape pandemic ravaging Nigeria. I acknowledged #naptipnigeria efforts to name and shame offenders and also thanked the Governors forum for declaring an emergency on rape. But we need to do more. We need the political will to do more.

I also attended the virtual board meeting of the One UN Covid-19 Basket fund on the on-going multisectoral efforts of the Presidential Task Force which is leading the FG's COVID-19 response. We had fruitful deliberations.

I noted that the Covid-19 pandemic has recalibrated our world and the work we do in fundamentally disruptive ways. It has also taken a huge toll on us – health, economic but above all humanitarian.

I believe that as devastating as it has been it provides us an opportunity to build stronger resilience for humanitarian crises & evolve sustainable social protection measures.

I was in Kogi state on Thursday, July 2nd alongside HM of Agriculture and Rural Development Sabo Nanono and DG #nemanigeria AVM Muhammed Alhaji Muhammed (Rtd.) We paid a courtesy call on HE Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State to brief him formally on our mission to his state.

We were in the state to flag off fertilizer etc distribution to farmers affected by the 2018 flood disaster and to initiate flood mitigation advocacy following the release of its annual flood predictions by #nimetnigeria as part of our early warning protocol.

On Wednesday, July 1, joined HE President Muhammad Buhari and other council members for the weekly virtual Federal Executive Council meeting.
