A Recap Of HM Sadiya Umar Farouq Last Week Activities

The Honorable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Umar Farouq shares an update on her last week's activities. She wrote:

Hello. My week in review.

My week began with my participation and attendance at the First Year Ministerial Performance Review Retreat where we reviewed the achievements and challenges as well as the state of the Nation and other urgent matters of state.

On Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2020, I attended the Inauguration of the National Steering Committee #NSC for the preparation of the Medium Term National Development #MTNDP 2021 2025 and Vision 2050 by HE President Muhammadu Buhari.

On the same day, I received in audience a delegation from the Bank of Industry led by the MD. Our deliberations and interaction focused on strengthening collaboration and increasing our impact through #geep.

On Thursday, I joined other members at the National Food Security Council meeting chaired by HE, President Muhammadu Buhari during which I made a presentation on the "Role of Humanitarian Response and Interventions in Aiding Food Security.”

In my presentation, I highlighted the strategy of @FMHDS_ng towards the achievement of food security and attainment of the #SDGs (specifically Goal 2 to end hunger), realizing food security & improving nutrition as well as the promotion of sustainable agriculture by 2030.

I also shared our ongoing efforts through the Zero Hunger roundtable in collaboration with WFP Nigeria and the private sector to provide shock responsive social safety nets through immediate food relief and long term sustainability.

That same day I attended the meeting of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) with the Northern Traditional Leaders Council. The meeting focused on efforts to control community transmission of COVID-1 9.

On Friday, | co-chaired the National Humanitarian Coordination Committee where we proffered measures that will promote transparency and accountability in all aspects of humanitarian interventions in the country.

As the floods intensify, we wish to call the attention of state govt to our early warning signals based on insights from the annual Seasonal Rainfall Prediction (SRP) 8. Annual Flood Outlook (AFO) from NIHSA. 28 states & 500 communities are flood-prone. Proactive action is required. Have a good week.
