Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening technical and vocational skills development has reached another major milestone as the Federal Government officially commences the first tranche of payments under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training TVET Initiative.

According to the Federal Ministry of Education, over 42,000 young Nigerians have received their monthly upkeep stipend of N22,500, intended to support transportation and basic welfare throughout their training. In addition, more than 600 independent technical and vocational training centres have been funded to enhance instructional quality and ensure the continuity of hands-on learning programs nationwide.

This first phase of disbursement marks the beginning of a long-term effort to sustain and expand the initiative. Additional tranches are expected to be released, solidifying the government’s commitment to equipping Nigerian youth with practical, employable skills.

Speaking on the development, the Honourable Minister of Education noted that the swift rollout of payments reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to invest aggressively in the nation’s youth. He emphasized that empowering young people with in-demand technical skills is one of the fastest pathways to job creation, entrepreneurship, and national economic growth.

Since its introduction in May, the TVET Initiative has progressed rapidly from student registration to full-scale practical training. The timely release of these funds ensures that students can focus on their vocational courses without financial burden, helping sustain the program’s growing momentum.
