NLC To Meet N-Power Beneficiaries Over Non Payment Of Stipends

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has responded to the concerns of N-Power beneficiaries regarding the non-payment of their stipends, which have been outstanding for 8 to 12 months.

In a letter dated 5th August 2025 and signed by Comrade Benson Upah, Acting General Secretary of the NLC, the Congress acknowledged a formal request made by the National Association of N-Power Beneficiaries (NANB) in a letter dated 10th July 2025. The beneficiaries had sought the intervention of the NLC in their planned peaceful protest over unpaid stipends.

The NLC leadership assured the beneficiaries of its commitment to addressing the matter and invited them for a meeting. According to the letter, the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, led by its President, will meet with representatives of the beneficiaries on Monday, 25th August 2025, at the NLC Headquarters in Labour House, Central Business District, Abuja. The meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m.

This intervention by the NLC is seen as a critical step in amplifying the voices of N-Power beneficiaries, many of whom have been struggling due to the prolonged delay in stipend payments. With months of arrears piling up, beneficiaries are hopeful that the Congress's involvement will yield positive results and put pressure on the authorities to fulfill their obligations.

The NLC has consistently maintained its stance that labour creates wealth, and by extension, workers and volunteers deserve timely compensation for their efforts. Beneficiaries are now looking forward to the upcoming meeting as a decisive moment in their push for justice and fairness.
