Anthony Joshua Discharged From Hospital After Tragic Road Accident

World-renowned Nigerian-British boxing champion Anthony Joshua has been discharged from the hospital following a tragic road accident that occurred on December 29, 2025, which claimed the lives of two young men, Lateef Ayodele and Cina Gami.

The governments of Lagos State and Ogun State have once again expressed their heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, describing the incident as deeply unfortunate and painful. Both state governments prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed and asked God to grant their families the strength to bear the irreparable loss.

According to official statements, Anthony Joshua was discharged late in the afternoon after being confirmed clinically fit by medical experts. Despite his physical recovery, he was described as emotionally devastated over the loss of his two close friends and will continue his recuperation from home.

Earlier in the day, Anthony Joshua, accompanied by his mother, visited a funeral home in Lagos to pay their final respects to the deceased as preparations were underway for their repatriation later in the evening.

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, appreciated the overwhelming public concern, prayers, and support shown by Nigerians following the tragic incident. They also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his fatherly support throughout the entire process.

Special appreciation was extended to the doctors and medical personnel at Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, for their professionalism and quality medical care provided to Anthony Joshua and others who sustained injuries during the accident.
