NITDA 2026 Digital Initiatives Kickoff To Fuel Youth Careers In Digital Economy

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), under the leadership of Director General Kashifu Inuwa, has officially moved into the full implementation phase of its 2026 initiatives. This milestone was recently presented during a high-level briefing to Engr. Nadungu Gagare, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.

The briefing provided a comprehensive look at NITDA’s evolution since its inception in 2001, highlighting a clear path toward a modernized, digital Nigeria. Central to this journey is the Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan 2024–2027 (SRAP 2.0), which serves as the blueprint for the nation's digital transformation.

Major Milestones: AI, Talent, and Regulation

NITDA has reported significant progress across several key areas that are reshaping Nigeria’s tech landscape:

• Talent Development: The 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme continues to bridge the skills gap, fostering a new generation of digital experts.
• Artificial Intelligence: Nigeria’s global AI ranking has seen a remarkable jump, moving from 85th to 69th. This is further supported by the completion of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy.
• Policy & Regulation: The agency has made major strides in cloud sovereignty, data localisation, and e-invoicing, ensuring that Nigerian data remains secure and utilized for national benefit.
• Cybersecurity: Enhanced collaboration efforts are currently in place to protect the nation’s digital infrastructure.
• The Nigerian Startup Act: Full-scale implementation of the Act is ongoing, providing the legal backing needed for local startups to thrive.
