The Nigerian Senate has officially confirmed that the Federal Government is set to disburse the $81 billion owed to N-Power beneficiaries as unpaid stipends from 2022 and 2023.

This follows a crucial closed-door meeting facilitated by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin. Present at the meeting were government officials, N-Power representatives, and their legal counsel, Abba Hikima.

According to Senator Barau, the government has commenced steps to settle the outstanding payments. Following these assurances, the beneficiaries have agreed to suspend further legal proceedings.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, clarified that while the backlog had been included in previous budgets, it was not funded. However, with new approvals now secured, disbursements are expected to begin within the 2025 fiscal year.

N-Power representatives and their legal team expressed optimism, stating they will monitor progress while holding off on litigation in anticipation of payments beginning with the new budget implementation.
